[REVIEW] Drafted for review before launch. Confirm accuracy against the actual services in use (hosting, analytics, newsletter) and applicable law before publishing.

The short version

This site is built to collect as little personal information as possible. We do not run advertising, sell data, or use tracking cookies. The only personal information we collect is what you choose to give us: an email address if you subscribe to the newsletter, or the contents of an email you send us.

What we collect and why

Newsletter email addresses. If you subscribe, your email address is collected and stored by our newsletter provider to deliver the newsletter. That is the only purpose. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any issue, which removes you from the list.

Correspondence. If you email us (for example, a correction), we keep the email to respond and to fix the issue. We don't add you to any list.

Server and analytics data. Our hosting and content-delivery provider records standard technical request data (IP address, user agent, pages requested) to serve the site and provide aggregate, privacy-preserving traffic analytics. We do not set tracking cookies and we do not build profiles of visitors.

Legal basis and jurisdiction

We handle personal information in accordance with Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and, where applicable, the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). We collect, use, and disclose personal information only for the purposes described above, which a reasonable person would consider appropriate in the circumstances.

Service providers

Newsletter delivery and website hosting are performed by third-party service providers who process data on our behalf and may store it outside Canada. Where personal information is processed outside Canada, it is subject to the laws of those jurisdictions. We choose providers with appropriate safeguards.

Retention

Newsletter addresses are kept while you remain subscribed. Correspondence is kept as long as needed to address the matter. Aggregate analytics contain no directly identifying information.

Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by emailing [email protected]. You may also complain to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta if you believe we have handled your information improperly.

Changes
